Hot Air Balloon

Thanks to Katelyn in the senior school we had the asthma balloon visit us this morning.

DATE

No we were not at school on Sunday 14th....the date is wrong and Mrs Cooper doesn't know how to fix it..yet

How does your "POTATO" grow

At the start of the term we all took a potato and bucket home to grow.

Some of our's are really big and some haven't grown much at all.

Look on the homework section of our class wiki to see the diary bits and some recipes for potatoes.

School Athletics Day

We went up to the track for the day and did shot put, high jump, 200m, long jump and baseball throw in the morning. In the afternoon we did sprints and relays and a house colour walk.

School Fair

On the 7th of November we had our first school fair in YEARS. Our class did a cake walk. We made lots of cakes at school and at home. It was like musical chairs but you stood on a number. Some of our Mum's and Dad's helped at it.

The fair was great, awesome, amazing. We liked the train ride, the white elephant, the sumo wrestling, the candy floss, in fact EVERYTHING!!!

The school made lots and lots of money. We hope we have it again next year.

GONE - NEVER

I bet you thought we had disappeared.

Term 3 was really bad as Mrs Cooper was away for a few weeks because she was sick and then we had another teacher, Mrs Bell working in our room too.

BUT LOOK OUT IN TERM 4....we will be back.

End of Term

Hi all,
Well another term over and we didn't get the chance to write a blog during the week..I was away too many days sorry. Check out the class wiki site for your imovie pirate stories and the imovie "The year so far" which I have put on today.

Imovies

We have learnt how to do imovies on the laptops. Today we worked with a partner to create our own "Year so far" We need to finish them on Monday by adding text and music to it. Perhaps you can come and see them later next week.

In reading we are in groups doing plays. Next week we will be performing them to Room 5 and 9 if they want to come and watch. We haven't seen each others yet so it will be fun.

Harold

This week we went to see Harold in the Life Education Van that is visiting Highfield school.
We talked about how the food goes down into our stomach. This is called the Digestive System. The Digestive System has 4 bits. We also learnt that when it goes into the intenstines the food actually gets absorbed into our blood. At the end Harold told us a funny joke....

Wednesday 9 June

We are taking part in the My Greatest Feat. So far we have walked 1067km and that doesn't include our scores for today. We are hoping to reach the end and meet all the All Whites players soon.
In art we have been doing Koru patterns but trying to use lots of bright colours.
As part of our hero study we have made up our own SUPER HEROS and are writing stories about a herioc act they do here at Highfield School. Come into our classroom to read what they do. Also we have been finishing doing our hero powerpoints when we can get to use the laptops and computers. We have found out lots of things information and some of us got letters, magnets and even a book back from the people we wrote to.
Some of us have made our imovies from our pirate stories and will share them on our wiki pages soon.
In reading we have made posters about the information we read about.
Doesn't this make us sound SO BUSY in Room 6!

Disco

On Thursday at lunch time we had a Year 1 - 4 disco. We danced and played games. Loren and Jayden won prizes. It was an animal theme. It was lots of fun.

Ronald McDonald

On Wednesday Ronald McDonald came to get us moving for "My Greatest Feat". We are wearing pedometers and trying to get as many steps as we can in a day.

Heart Jump Jam

Today we had red mufti day and went to the hall for jump jam. This was to raise money for Heart Children. A wee girl came along who is a Heart child. She has had open heart surgery.

How to make a drip sound

The Wonky Donkey man sang a song about drips. He made a fantastic drip sound. At the end of the song he told us how to do it.

Wonky Donkey

Today Craig Smith came to school to perform for us. He is an author and a musician. He played the guitar and harmonica and we got to sing parts with him. His book, Wonky Donkey has just been voted childrens most popular book at a National Book Awards. He is making a new book called the Buzzy Bee. He read us the story of his new book. At the end we got his signature.

Work

We have learnt more about our chosen HERO's and spend time looking on the computer to find out information. We have also sent letters away so we hope people will reply to us soon.
In story writing we are learning how to write interesting narrative stories about pirates. We are going to learn how to make a movie so our stories will be published that way. Maybe Room 13 might come and help us.
We have Wok and Wal coming on Friday and next week we have a disco on Thursday and on Friday The Wonky Donky man coming back.....its going to be very busy!

cross country

we all went to the cross country on Wednesday. It was great weather for it. We ran in 2 groups - Year 3 and Year 4. The Year 4's were lucky as a lady told them the wrong way so they didn't have to run the big lap. Congratulations to Loren, Maddy, Amelia, India, Patrick and Ben who all got top 3 places. Mrs Cooper is really pleased as GREEN house won - it is the first time since House points started that Green have won something so she wants to have another cross country next week :)

Yesterday Mrs Hocking came to school and took us to the Rimu St crossing. We showed her what we could remember about crossing the road correctly. Some of us now need to practice when we can, so Mums and Dad's let us think about it when we cross.

Hockey

On Tuesday afternoon we walked up to the hockey turf with Room 5 and 9. We got put into teams and played some games. It was lots of fun. Some of us now want to play hockey.

butterfly excitement

After getting 2 butterflies on Thursday, we were lucky on Friday to have 7 "hatch" on Friday and we got to see several of them. No we didn't spend all day watching them - we did do some work too.

Hockey

Today we had our 2nd session of hockey. We learnt how to dribble last week and today we were practicing pushing the ball. At the end of our session, Tane got to put on the goalie gear and we were able to push the ball to him in the goal. He was VERY good at stopping it.

Caterpillar Day

What an exciting day we had....we got to watch 4 caterpillars turn into chrysalis between playtime and lunch and then several more changed this afternoon. We decided they do a caterpillar dance as they twist and wriggle a lot. Just on bell time one stuck to the book shelf changed. Mrs Cooper had to rescue some who were on leaves being eaten by other caterpillars. They are attached with cellotape onto some string.

Thank you Timaru Rotary Clubs

Today all the Year 4's received a dictionary. These have been provided for by Timaru Rotary Clubs. It was good to use them in the classroom today. We found lots of words we needed when we were writing.

Caterpillars

Our caterpillars continue to eat and GROW. Some of us cannot believe how fast they have grown.

Swimming

We went swimming today and made waves to walk and swim through. It was AWESOME!

Fun Afternoon

On Friday we had our fun afternoon and it was LOTS of fun. Most of us dressed in our house colours. We got put into different groups with others from our house and we spent the afternoon doing different team activities. We will find out next week which house won.
Next week we will use some of the photos that Mrs Cooper and Mrs Miller took to make some photo stories about the fun we had.

Caterpillars

Yesterday when we got to school most of the eggs on our swan plant had hatched. Now we have about 30 small caterpillars eating our plants.

This morning a spider caught one of the caterpillars in its web.

Hayley brought some swan plant seed heads in to show us. Perhaps later when they dry abit more we might be able to plant them in a school garden.

One HOT Tuesday

We have felt really hot today. We had a swim this morning but wish we could have gone in again this afternoon.

Last week Patricks Mum came to read to us during Read and Feed. It was a good story.

On Friday we are having a House Fun afternoon. Lets hope the weather forecast is wrong and it will be a fine day.

Friday

This week we have had Mrs Elliotte taking our class on Tuesday and Wednesday when Mrs Cooper was away.
Today we got the cow out and used the laptops to look at our Wiki Site. It was great to see India's Mum had already been on her page. Look next week and we should have some of our work on there to share with you.
We had dance this morning. We did a dance to the rhyme, Hickory Dickory Dock and we danced with a partner.
Last night some parents came to see our class room...thanks for coming.

Gingerbread Men

We made some this morning and they were yummy.

Back at school

It has been fun being back at school and making lots of new friends.
We have been reading different versions of the Gingerbread Man story....and tomorrow we are going to make our own gingerbread men.
We drew our self portraits on Tuesday and they look great up on the wall...come in and see if you can guess who is who.
We have also been swimming each day and it is really important that we bring our togs EVERY day.
In Maths we have been making graphs. We found out how we came to school and today we drew around our feet....ask us about it at home.

Welcome Back

Welcome back - its nearly time for the 2010 school year.....where have the holidays gone?
The children don't start until Tuesday 2nd February, but I will be back at school next week getting the classroom ready.
