HFS news

Hello Im Angus and this is Hollie

Two weeks ago a new boy Seth came to room 6. He has got lots of nice friends now. Seth came from Invercargill.

We have a new teacher called Mrs C because another teacher called Mrs Adams left. Mrs Cooper is still here too, so we are lucky as we have 2 teachers in our room.

We are learning to write expositions. In groups we are writing to Mr Gallagher to persuade him to ban school uniforms. We wonder what he will say when we give them to him.

The Rugby World Cup starts this week and we have been learning all about the countries and things about New Zealand too.

FIRST WEEK BACK!!!!!

New term - new topics!
This term we are studying the rugby world cup. We have to adopt a country that is coming to the world cup and learn about that country like there flag, emblem, rugby jersey, population and things like that.
And our new topic in KIWI CAN is CO-OPERATION. We are doing table points to demonstrate that we as room 6 co-operate with each other together and at the end of the week we count up the points and see which team has been more co-operative throughout the week.

And we're learning about Simple Machines. We were put into 3 groups, then put into groups across so everybody got a machine. There were 6 machines.
They were Levers ,Pulley ,Inclined Plane,Screw, Wedges,Wheel and Axle. At the end we had to use a simple machine to work out how to get a present in the house. Check out the simple machine inquiry under topic on our wikisite to follow what we did.

Also 5 boys are going to be part of the new class in Room 3. We will miss Shay, Mitchell, Lachlan, Jayden and Dylan but know they will be part of our syndicate so will still do lots together.

What we have been doing for topic

NZ native bush

We are learning about nz native bush and the layers of the forest.

We know that there are 5 layers and the Forest floor is mostly moss and does not get any sun.

Year 5's are getting really excited about their first camp. Some have taken home raffle cards to sell to raise money for it.

Today we had our first tennis session. Look out for a photo next week.
